Illegal dumpers cover field in massive pile of garbage

Illegal dump in Oxfordshire Witness
Environmental disaster site

The area has been described as an "environmental crisis".
Correspondent visited the scene and stated the pile appeared to be "20ft high at least".

Waste criminals have dumped a mountain of waste in a open space in Oxfordshire.

The "environmental catastrophe developing in plain sight" is around 150m (490ft) extending and 6m (20ft) high.

The enormous mound has been discovered in a field next to the River Cherwell near Kidlington.

Parliament representative raised the problem in parliament, stating it was "posing risk of an environmental emergency".

Protection organization reported the unauthorized waste site was established approximately a few weeks back by an illegal operation.

"This is an ecological disaster taking place in full view.

"Each day that goes by elevates the risk of hazardous drainage reaching the waterways, contaminating fauna and endangering the condition of the complete catchment.

"The Environment Agency must take action immediately, not in months or years, which is their standard response period."

Legal prohibition had been established by the Environment Agency.

It is challenging to distinguish any specific pieces of waste as it looks to have been pulverized with dirt blended.

Part of the garbage from the peak of the pile has collapsed and is now merely five meters from the waterway.

The River Cherwell is a feeder stream of the River Thames, which signifies it flows through Oxford before joining the Thames.

Elected official stated the price of disposing of the rubbish would be significant

The MP asked the authorities for help to eliminate the unauthorized dump before it resulted in a inferno or was washed away into the water network.

Speaking to elected representatives on this week, he declared: "Criminals have discarded a huge quantity of illegal synthetic materials... weighing substantial weight, in my constituency on a floodplain alongside the River Cherwell.

"Stream volumes are increasing and heatmaps demonstrate that the rubbish is also increasing in temperature, elevating the risk of fire.

"Environmental authorities reported it has inadequate capabilities for regulation, that the estimated cost of removal is greater than the whole annual allocation of the municipal authority."

Environment minister said the authorities had taken over a failing waste industry that had resulted in an "growing issue of unauthorized dumping".

She informed parliament members the authority had issued a prohibition notice to prevent additional entry to the location.

In a announcement, the organization said it was examining the matter and appealed for evidence.

It said: "We share the citizens' anger about situations like this, which is why we intervene against those accountable for illegal dumping."

A recent investigation discovered efforts to address major environmental offenses have been "extremely neglected" despite the problem developing into bigger and more sophisticated.

Government advisors recommended an autonomous "comprehensive" examination into how "endemic" environmental offenses is tackled.
