Historical organ composition
Bach is considered to have written the two organ pieces during his early years

Recently identified musical pieces by the renowned composer Bach have been revealed and performed in the central European country for the initial occasion in three hundred twenty years.

Germany's Minister of Culture the cultural official called the discovery of the pair of works a "great moment for the global music scene".

They first caught the attention of Peter Wollny in the early nineties when he was organizing historical musical documents at the Royal Library of Belgium.

The musical compositions - the Chaconne in D minor and G minor Chaconne - were undated and without attribution. The researcher spent the following three decades working to authenticate the identity of the pieces.

Memorable Concert

They were presented at the historic Leipzig church in the eastern German municipality, where Bach is interred and where he served as a music director for twenty-seven years.

The compositions were executed by Dutch organist the renowned organist, who said he was proud to be able to perform them for the initial performance in over three centuries.

He said the pieces were "remarkably sophisticated" and would be "a great asset for modern musicians, as they are also well-suited for smaller organs".

Musical Importance

They are thought to have been written during Bach's formative years, when he was working as an organ teacher in the town of the German town in Thuringia.

Mr Wollny, who is now the director of the Bach Archive in Leipzig, said they exhibited several characteristics particular to the artist.

"Stylistically, the compositions also include aspects that can be identified in Bach's compositions from this period, but not in those of any other composer," he said.

They are thought to have been written down in 1705 by a student of Bach, the historical figure.

At a unveiling of the pieces, the expert said he was "virtually certain that the composer had written the two compositions" and they have now been incorporated into the official catalogue of his works.
