The Blue Jays Earn World Series Showdown Versus the Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

The outfielder was instrumental for the Houston Astros claiming the championship in 2017.

Canada's MLB team advanced to their maiden championship series after the 1993 season by overcoming the Seattle Mariners in the decisive Game 7 of the AL Championship Series.

Down 3-1, the star outfielder hit a three-run blast in the seventh inning, guiding the only Canadian franchise in MLB to a 4-3 victory in the best-of-seven series. They will now face the Los Angeles Dodgers, the team that is the reigning title, in the upcoming championship.

"I'm just so happy for this squad, our city, Canada," said Springer, a key player of the Houston Astros team that secured the 2017 title. "What an amazing experience."

Springer has now slugged 23 total playoff homers, making him third all-time trailing only Manny Ramirez (29) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven).

"I can't think of another person in the world that I'd choose in that situation other than George Springer with his October magic," noted manager John Schneider.

The Mariners, after leading the early in the series, continue to be the only MLB franchise that has never reached in a Fall Classic.

Manager Dan Wilson commented "without a doubt that it hurts" following his club's elimination at Rogers Centre, but praised their work throughout the year.

"This is a unique group. Unfortunately that we had to come out on the unsuccessful side of this game," he remarked.

Toronto's team claimed the title on their two prior appearances in the early 90s, and will host the Los Angeles in the first game on Friday.
