The New Animated Series' Introductory Sequence Chose the Wrong Popular RPG Show Track

This latest animated series, the newest animated series by Critical Role, revealed an exciting opening credits. It features the beloved cast of misfits, misfits, and criminals fighting hard and taking names, while also hinting at multiple heart-wrenching backstories for characters including Liam O'Brien's wizard Caleb, and another actor's warlock orc, Fjord.

Overall, the opening looks stunning. But I couldn't help feeling that something was missing in the song choice.

The intro uses "Welcome to Wildemount", an exceptional song created by artist the talented musician. This piece originating from the soundtrack album of the same name, the second one released by the production company's record label Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a great nostalgic option, and I suspect that fans of the sequel series will love its inclusion.

But for me, The series' opening fails to capture the hype and energy that accompanied the show's live-play sessions. "It's Your Turn", composed by musician Jason Charles Miller, became an immediate hit in my view when it was initially unveiled in 2015, and it improved further when cast member Sam Riegel added lyrics to the tune for the series' animated intro in 2018.

Featuring vocals from one actress, another performer, Travis Willingham, as well as the writer, the track was catchy and fun. At the time, I hadn't even watched the follow-up series at that point, but it was so infectious that I kept it on my phone. It's a song that knows how to get you pumped before you start an episode of fantasy hijinks.

The show's opening with "the new song" fails to hit the same chords for me. It's a grand piece of music, but from what I know of this party, I feel that its mood is a little off.

Naturally, the creators has stated that the animated show will have a few surprises and variations from the original live sessions. An adjusted mood for its intro appears as among these.

The Mighty Nein will be released on Prime Video from November 19. If you can't wait before that, or wish to prepare to get to know the personas of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the original episodes are available on Spotify and YouTube.
